Known for its extreme off-road capabilities, the Jeep Wrangler is one very popular model. We've heard that the next installation might be rock hopping with fewer pounds, as Chrysler is considering scaling back the weight on the model with the goal of increasing fuel economy ratings.
Because of the powerful engine and extreme capabilities, the current Wrangler attains roughly 21 miles-per-gallon combined. With the recent CAFE standards set, automakers much reach an average corporate fuel economy ratings of 54.5 mpg by 2025, which means the Wrangler will have to contend with these guidelines.
According to Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler Group Chief Executive Officer, an all-new Wrangler is still a few years away. Marchionne stated, "We do need to intervene on the Wrangler and on the minivan architecture. For a variety of reasons these are things that will not survive in the mid to long-term, simply because of the implications on CAFE standards. So we need to roll up our sleeves and get it done."1
With an iconic look, we're curious to see what affect the changes will have on the Jeep Wrangler's overall exterior style. We think the automaker will employ the use of modern and innovative materials. For now, stop by Route 46 Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Little Falls to see the impressive current installment of the SUV. We're conveniently located at 1655 Route 46, just a short drive from Paramus, Jersey City, and Wayne, NJ.
